JMP Brings Robotics to the Oil & Gas Show in Calgary

JMP's Director of Automation, Ken McLaughlin, understands that robot-based automation may not be the first solution that comes to mind if it's something you've never done before. Ken presented a session today at the Oil & Gas Show in Calgary, Alberta that explained the fundamentals of robotic automation to an appreciative crowd.
It didn't hurt that the stage was a short walk from a functioning JMP robot.
"Anyone seeking to optimize their operations and reduce labor costs is a good candidate for an automated solution," said Keith Allen, a JMP business development manager who, along with Ken, is helping attendees find answers at the JMP exhibit booth. "We can often find opportunities to automate processes that other companies write off as 'too difficult'. JMP specializes in that kind of challenge; the processes that no one has automated before."
The Oil & Gas Show provided JMP with a receptive crowd who was interested in the newest JMP automation solution: robots that apply thread protectors to oil and gas pipes to prevent them from being damaged before installation.
"We take a complex problem and innovate a simple way to solve it. Our Thread ProtectFlex system is a perfect example - we automated the installation of thread protectors and couplings, making really good use of the 3D bin picking and complex pallet building capabilities of the robots," Ken said.
